Ryan K. Coffey is a pastor, teacher, and servant-leader shaped by the small-town values of faith, family, and community. With more than twenty years of ministry experience, he brings a steady, thoughtful presence to every space he serves—committed to helping people grow in Christ, strengthen their families, and build churches that flourish.

Personal Story

Born November 29, 1982, Dr. Coffey is a native of Buffalo, Kentucky and 2001 graduate of LaRue County High School. Ryan is the son of Donna Duncan Coffey and the late Rev. Tom R. Coffey of Buffalo.
Ryan is married to Holly Tyler Coffey (July 12, 2008) and has two children, a son, Tyler (Ty) Ryan Coffey, and daughter Campbell Rae Coffey.
Ryan’s early life was spent in LaRue County where he learned the values of faith, family, education, hard work, and how to enjoy the great outdoors. The lessons he learned during this season of life have made a great and lasting impact upon his life, ministry, and service to his community.
Coffey’s family was involved in public service, mother, Donna is a retired school teacher from LaRue County Public Schools, father, Tom, retired as manager of LaRue County Water District #1, grandfather, Roscoe Duncan, former magistrate and Deputy Sheriff, and grandmother, Phyllis Duncan, retired from LaRue County Public Valuation Administration (PVA Office). These influences in his life taught him how to serve, handle the public, and treat everyone with fairness and equality.
Ryan is a flag-waving patriot who supports his local church, community, and country. He believes in standing for the flag and kneeling for the cross. Coffey desires for all people to enjoy the freedom’s of this great nation, which include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. However, he believes deeply that real life, liberty, and joy begin and end with a saving relationship with Jesus.

Academic Journey
Doctorate of Ministry – Dr. Coffey is a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, earning his Doctorate of Ministry (DMin) degree in 2024.
Final Project: “Developing a Church Fostering Handbook for First Baptist Church Somerset, Kentucky.”
Masters of Theology – Ryan is a two-time graduate of Campbellsville University (2005, 2013). Earning his Bachelor of Science in Educational Ministries Degree (2005) and Master of Theology (2013).
Coffey is also a proud graduate of LaRue County High School, 2001.
Professional Experience

Pastor Ryan is a passionate teacher and gifted communicator who believes in the absolute of authority of God’s Word and the absolute ability of God’s grace to transform any life. Ryan has dedicated more than 20 years of serving his community through the local church. Coffey currently serves as the Lead Pastor, First Baptist Somerset, Kentucky (2021-Present). First Baptist Somerset is more than 225 years old and is celebrated as one of the great historic Baptist churches in Kentucky. Since his arrival in April 2021, First Baptist Somerset has witnessed over 600 baptisms, 300 additions, record giving, and overall increase in worship and discipleship attendance and missions participation.
Previously, Ryan served as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Russell Springs, Kentucky (2017-2021); Student Minister at First Baptist Church London, Kentucky (2009-2017); and Youth Pastor of Eubank Baptist Church, Eubank, Kentucky (2005-2009).

Outdoor Leadership
Pastor Coffey has developed a reputation for utilizing outdoor recreation to teach Biblical and leadership principles. Whether by leading a men’s retreat to Alaska, shooting sporting clays, or teaching archery; Coffey believes leaders can grow by participating in outdoor experiences.
Ryan has traveled extensively and has accumulated outdoor experiences in Texas, Alaska, South Africa, and throughout his home state of Kentucky.
